I read in a book of English Place Names that
WALTHALL means "Walter's Hall" , a hall being
a central dormitory/meeting place that was
common in the Middle Ages.Walter was one
of the most common names in Early England,
and is reflected in thevariety of Surnames
that have their root in Walter (Walls, Watts, Watson, etc..) It is most probable that
someone named Walter was in charge of this
place and it and he became known as Walthall.
or Walter's Hall.
