Warmoth etc webpage and database

I have updated the searchable database on the Warmoth World Connect webpage. And have "cleaned it of Colyers"

Since I have had a very unpleasant experience with people downloading gedcoms and appropriating data WHICH DOES NOT connect to their lines, thus misleading researchers, I will no longer allow gedcoms to be downloaded from any of my webpages.

Ancestry.com is "acquiring" Genealogy.com and this seems to be the norm these days, the end result is that we the researcher will be paying for research of our own which someone has uploaded to their sites without our knowledge or permission. Misleading and expensive for us.

I am not picking on Ancestry, I have purchased reference CDs from them and subscribed to genealogy.com census records and I dearly love Rootsweb and all the fine VOLUNTEERS and sponsors that have made it so wonderful.

If I sound aggravated, well its because I am. I cannot get Ancestry.com nor the culprit to remove the data.

Meanwhile, as those of you that have corresponded with and shared with me know, I will gladly share what I have on an individual basis.

Everyone needs to think about their work and investment of time and money and decide if uploading their data to these search sites is the best option. Granted its a great tool when used properly, but how many times have you thought you had a "hit" when it tracked right back to your own data?

Donna
