Eric, thank you very much for the early reply and the suggestion that I will follow. I wasn't even sure what those numbers meant. If William Pinner was regular army, it is likely that he was in several battles and even better records will be available in the archives. He and his brother, Arthur, were close and fought in the Indian Wars together. Arthur was killed in 1836, when they both were in their fifties, rather old for volunteer soldiers.
