Merit Sheckles is said to have been a quarter gunman on the USS Constitution US Navy "war with Mexico" I assume the war of 1812. He applied with a "Scrip Warrant Act of 1855" (10 Stat.701, for land in IA 6/10/56 Doc. 3882. How would you locate his service record? His sir name is often spelled Sickles, Scheckles, Schekles and on... The various spellings are a challenge! Do you know where the records of the USS Constitution are held? Thanks you W. R.
