Plattsburgh was the headquarters of the right division of the Northern Army throughout the War of 1812. So there were always some militia and regular army troops stationed there. The only battle was the Battle of Platssburgh between 6-11 Sept 1814.

The camp was used as a staging area for battles that occurred in Lower Canada when the American army crossed the borders into Canada.
