You're looking for the 5th Regiment of N.C. Militia, Rockingham County, under Captain George W. Barker (sometimes written as Baker).

Your soldier should have a "Compiled Military Service Record" on file at the National Archives.

In my ancestor's case, I was able to find an officer in his regiment who was a prolifc letter writer, and who described the everyday activities of the regiment down to the weather.

Also, the North Carolina State Archives should have much to offer.
