Capt. Quigley's Company
Does anyone perhaps have a complete listing of the members of Capt. Quigley's Company, Ohio Militia? They were organized in Aug. 1812, consisting of mostly local-residents of the Firelands (western part of the Connecticut Western Reserve in Ohio).
David Barrett of "Avery" Ohio, was Lieut.
There were supposed to be about 50 members of this Company.
A 20th-century historian refers to this Company as the "Huron* Rangers", but this seems to be a misnomer. More probably they might have called themselves the Firelands Rangers.[*-Any military name adapted from the Native American tribe known as 'Huron' would probably have been insulting to these local militiamen, who were mainly FIGHTING the local "indians". The residents of the Firelands, at this time, generally still referred to their residence as being "in the Firelands", even though "Huron County" had been officially designated.]
Any help appreciated.
