Dear Keith,
I tried to email you privately, but it bounced. We are having a great deal of difficulty in tracking down our WATFORD forebears and I'm wondering whether you might be able to help. Here's what I can tell you as far as it goes:-
Isaac WATFORD m. Sarah SMITH (probably London - don't know when). I have found 3 children for this couple, (the oldest being born in 1806) one of whom is our forebear, viz. Thomas b. 23 Jan 1811 at St.Mary, Newington, Surrey.
Don't know who Thomas married, but when his son George Henry was married on 26 May 1854 at St.Luke's Church, Chelsea, Thomas gave his occupation as a Captain in the Merchant Services. I am assuming that is the Merchant Navy. In the 1881 census, however, he is listed as a Medical Dispenser Assistant. This could be because George Henry (who died 28 May 1860 London) became a surgeon, apprenticed to his father-in-law, George PEARSE. When George died, his wife, Charlotte Louisa Lloyd PEARSE emigrated to Victoria, Australia (where she had siblings) with her infant son, William Carner WATFORD, b. 1859 London.
Having had a look at both the Bedford and Sussex WATFORDs, it seems to me that Isaac probably hailed from Bedfordshire. Can you fit this family into your database?
Thanks in anticipation.
