Hi, Pat,
So nice hearing from you. I visited Cuba, IL in 1998 and spoke with your Mother, lovingly referred to as "Grandma Honey". Here is my gedcom if you'd like to peruse it....

I found that Johann George Wombach and Magdalena Druck Wombach were sponsors at the baptism of George Wachtel in 1795. Since sponsors are usually related in some way, I became curious. I found no connection to Wombach but soon discovered that Magdalena had a sister named Catharine who was unaccounted for in the family. She was born in York Co, PA around 1772...Could this Catharine be the mother of George Wachtel? Also, another bit of circumstantial evidence; Magdalena & Catharine Druck's mother was named Christina. As you probably know, Catharine & Henry Wachtel named a daughter, Christina. Catharine's brother, Nicholas, had a daughter, Maria Magdalena, who married Jacob Baughman in 1816 in the Shenandoah Valley. Druck researchers believe that Catharine & her husband removed to the Shenandoah Valley with Nicholas, but they lose track of her after that....We believe that Henry Wachtel & Catharine were in Shenandoah, VA by 1793. Was this the Catharine who had an illegitimate child before 1794? We know there were 13 children as mentioned in a letter written by Catharine's son, Henry Waughtel, Jr in 1876. Mary Ruth Wright believed that Catharine was a Baughman because she & Henry came with the Baughmans to IL in 1825. However, if Catharine was a Druck, then her niece was married to a Baughman.
I wish the 1794 Christ Lutheran Church Records were available but they are missing from 1789-1796 in the York Co records. I still believe that Catharine was Catharine Druck but cannot prove it.
Also, I might add, my 3rd grt grandmother was Susannah Waughtel Miller. Judi Goodwin
