Peggy,
Your, Francis Marcus Weatherred Jr., was named in the Will of his father, Francis Marcus Weatherred Sr. in Sumner County, Tennessee, 1830.Francis Jr. was the 7th child of Francis Marcus Sr. and wife, Agnes Suddarth.(Notice in your post that you included the information that your Francis was indeed the son of Francis)There are several histories that have been done on the family, with substantial documentation to back them up.If you have traced your family to Francis Marcus Weatherred Jr., then you are just one step away from Francis Marcus Sr, in Sumner County. The Sumner County Archives actually has a Genealogy of the Weatherred family in their files, mentioning your, Francis Marcus Jr.The Bledsoe Genealogy also includes our Weatherred's.There are a wealth of court documents on the Weatherred family in Sumner County records.I was able to prove our Weatherred family into The First Families of Tennessee a few years ago with many of these records. You have stumbled onto a family with a wonderful history, documented in Wills, court records, the Draper Manuscripts, biographies, genealogies, and photos.
I would recommend contacting Billie Cansler Kaffenberger, one of the finest Weatherred genealogists we have in our family network. She just happens to descend from your own, Francis Marcus Weatherred Jr.Any of us would be more than happy to share our information with you, and bring you up to date with the rest of us, but Billie is by far our expert.DAR #683847.
As to your question as to why your Francis Marcus Jr. named his son Francis Marcus Jr., instead of Francis Marcus III?I don't know. That happens all the time.
Welcome to the family!
Gayle
