Joseph Philbrick Webster wrote music to Rev. Henry
De Lafayette Webster's poem, LORENA (1857).
They were not related, despite the surname, the
Rev. Henry De Lafayette Webster being descended
from Gov. John's line. The song was so popular in
the South during the Civil War that many girls
born around that time were named Lorena (which
was a spin of E. A. Poe's Lenore). Curiously,
both Websters were Northerners. - IW
