My grandparents are some of the Wepplers from Hanover that you mention. If you are looking for great information on the Wepplers and other families in SW Ontario, check out a reference "Normandy Reflections: A history of Normanby Township" published by the Normanby History Committee in 1989.ISBN: 0-9694041-0-7.The following is just a summary of some of this information for the Weppler family.
My grandmother, Amelia Weppler, happens to be a Weppler by birth and marriage. Her father was Andrew Weppler and he and Ludwig Brusso cleared land near Hanover in 1867. He married Helena Brusso (Ludwig's sister) and had 8 children: Louis (married Sophia Schultz in 1900--Sophia is the daughter of Rev. Henry Schultz--Lutheran missionary), Helena (married Fred Klages), Elizabeth (married Dan Hill), William, Henry, John, Valentine, and Willeminia (married John Wilfang).
Louis and Sophia had 8 children: Doretta (married Milton Weitzel), Herman (married Elizabeth Huehn), Hilda (married William Kaufman), Gertrude (married Theodore Hahn) Amelia (married Andrew Weppler), Olga (married Henry Schwass), Alvena (married Angus Fenton), Adella (married Orley Hilgendorf), Noah, Reuben, and Beatrice.
Herman and Elizabeth had 4 children: Harvey, George, Helen (married Delton Becker) and Harold (married Kathryn Stewart). Harold and Kathryn have 3 children:Terry, Tammy, and Tanya.
My grandparents Amelia and Andrew Weppler had 7 children: Violet, Marie (married Keith Knipe: children David and James), Verna (married Carl Nickel: children Cathy and Larry), Rueben, Audrey (married Gottfried Peter Behr: children Christina (that would be me!) and Michele), Paul (married Yvonne: children Bonnie and Lynn), Brian (married Wendy: children Andrew, and twin girls whose names I can't recall right now....).
My grandfather, Andrew, was named after his father, Andrew--confused yet?! I'll call my paternal great grandfather, Andrew, Sr.
Andrew Weppler, Sr. had brother's John, Valentine, Jacob, and Henry, and sister's Elizabeth (Russel), Catherine (Russwurm), Lena (Russwurm), Lydia, and Mary.
Andrew Weppler, Sr. married Caroline Riepert. Caroline had sisters Christina (married Philip Oehm), Julie (married Henry Oehm).Andrew, Sr. and Caroline had 8 children: Rose (married John Limppert), Christena (married Ed Rehkoph), Emma (married Herman Weber), Caroline, Charlie (children: Wilfred, Gertrude, Reta), Adolf, Andrew (my grandfather), Leonard: children Murray, Beryl, Brian, Doreen).
Andrew Weppler Sr. and his bothers Henry and Valentine emigrated to Ontario from Machtersheim, Germany in the 1830's. Henry married Margaret Feick and had 9 children: Christina, Elizabeth, Katherine, Margaret, Lena, John, Andrew, Valentine, and Henry.
Valentine Weppler, the son of Henry, was born in 1867 and married Katherine Hollinger (daughter of Philip Hollinger and Philipena Geib). They had 12 children: Laura, Cora (married Noah Russwurm), Eugene, Erwin, Elfrieda, Alvin (married Lavina Fischer), Lincoln, Elmer, Lezetta, Noah (married Ella Wesch), Oleda and Arnetta (married Melvin Geisel).
Henry Weppler, the son of Henry Weppler, married Katharine Liesmer in 1902 and had 8 children: Norman, Edwin (married Edna Allensen: children Robert (married Jan Steffler: children Tracey, Kelly, Cory), Laverne, Marlene), Harry, Mary, Tena, Emma, Nelda, Ella.
I know this all gets a little confusing--much of it, I'm sure came from handwritten notes in the back of bibles. If you are interested, I can also fax you the pages that this all comes from--or you can just go get this great reference of families in this region. If anyone can clarify any of this or add to it, please let me know. Thanks!
