I am sorry to have delayed in responding but have not checked this forum for a while...
I have no knowledge about the MORRIS families connection to the Wheless family. In fact I just have very little information about the WHELESS family itself...I am told that the family was prominent in the Nashville area in the banking business and that there is a Wheless St. in Nashville.
I do know that the Joseph you refer to is my line and he was born in North Carolina ca 1760.
Aquilla was his son, who was at one time Sheriff of Montgomery Co., TN. Aquilla was married to Mary "Polly" Hogan.
Joseph's other children included Aquilla's sister Mary Wheless GRANT,who named one of her sons Aquilla (and the name appears in several others in the line.)
The name CULLEN is after CULLEN BRYANT GARDNER of Sumner Co., TN(1791-1865) He was the son of John GARDNER and Mourning LASSITER who left Bertie Co, NC and settled in Sumner Co.,TN at Castillian Springs. I do not know were the name CULLEN may have originated. Cullen Bryant Garnder was the maternal grandfather of Dr. James Cullen Moody mentioned in my previous post.
I hope this in some way helps...please let me know if you see any connections.
Thanks,
Toni Cain Moody
