According to the online database on the NEHGS website: Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841–1910 (From original records held by the Massachusetts Archives. Online database: NewEnglandAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2004.) Eugene Lester Whitney was born 20 Nov 1889, Medford, MA, the son of Clarence E. and Harriet F. Whitney. The father was a blacksmith, born in Medford, MA, the mother was born in Charlestown, MA. From the same database, Clarence E. Whitney, age 25, born in Medford, residing in Medford, married Harriet F. Griffin, age 25, born in Boston, residing in Charlestown, 27 Apr 1887, Breton. His parents were Emery W. Hansdell(?) & Elizabeth [Whitney], her parents were John M. & Priscilla [Griffin]. In 1880, Clarence E. Whitney (mistakenly indexed on Ancestr.com as Clarence E. Whithey), was residing as a boarder with Jophanus and Martha Whitney in Medford. He was 18 and working as a blacksmith apprentice. This was Col. Jophanus Henderson Whitney, whose family can be found on the Whitney Research Group's website at http://wiki.whitneygen.org/wrg/index.php/Family:Whitney%2C_Jophanus_Henderson_(1846-%3F) I'm still working to discover how Clarence Eugene might be related to Jophanus Whitney and to locate the parents named in his marriage record.
