Thanks for info on 1880 Census.
My grandfather, Joe Whitney, is indeed the step-son
of Issac F. Smith and son of Elsie B. Myers (Whitney) Smith. I have done much research on Addis Merrill Whitney.
b. 1862, Gouverneur County,NY, d.Swampscott,MA 1935.
He graduated from Amherst in 1886. I was hoping someone
would be able to help me connect him through marriage to
Elsie B. Myers of Lincoln County, SD around 1884- 1885.
Elise B. Myers was remarried to Isaac F. Smith by 1889.
Or, Addis Merrill Whitney is not the man I seek.
I have searched on-line for birth records for Joe Whitney
in SD with no luck. Must find record of baptism for Joe Whitney b. 19 May 1885 or for some record of the marriage of Elsie B. Myers to Addis Whitney. I have considered that Joe Whitney is illegit. but I don't think this is so. I have considered Addison, Addues, Addens as a first name with no luck. Thanks again,Gayle
