Data sought on the family and ancestors of my paternal grandmother, Flora Sawyer Whitney. She married Samuel Mudgett Packard 24 Dec 1891 at Newburgh, Penobscot Co. Maine. The data I presently have from various family sources is as follows.
Flora was born in Hampden, Penobscot Co., 17 Sep 1864 and died in Newburgh 2 June 1939. She was the second child and daughter of Elisha Doan? Whitney (1823-1880) and Mary B. Sawyer (16 Jan 1832, Hampden-1903).
Elisha and Mary were married 18 Dec 1852 in Hampden. This date may be in error or I was not given the correct birth order. I have their first child, Minnie, born in 1862 and died in 1892 and their second, Flora Sawyer, born 17 Sep 1864. Other Whitney children and the only dates I have for them are:
John Milton (12 Feb 1866-6 Aug 1919);
Fred (1870-1943);
Lillian, no dates;
George, no dates;
Bert (Albert?), died before 1929;
Carrie, no dates;
Elisha Doan (1875-31 Mar 1929).
I have Mary B. SawyerÕs paternal ancestry. Her mother was Mary Patten (27 Jul 1807-25 Oct 1882) but I have nothing more on the Patten side.
I have nothing on Elisha WhitneyÕs parents and am only guessing that his middle name might be Doan as is his sonÕs.
Any data is welcome.
All I have on ElishaÕs siblings is:
John Milton Whitney married Margaret Sutherland (1 Feb 1877-27 Sep 1956); no children.
Bert Whitney married Lillian A. Rand 3 Oct 1906, Bangor, Penobscot Co.; no children.
Carrie Whitney married Roscoe Miller.
I will be glad to share any information I do have on related Sawyer and Packard lines.
