If you are basing the gold rush story on a type-written page titled "Whorton Family History" and includes a tale about a Flintlock rifle that was used in the Revolution, you know that thing has some "veracity" issues.
It was authored by my Great-Grandmother and was typed for her by my aunt in the 40's.Montie was known for "embroidering" stories and my aunt said she would just laugh and laugh when she was caught out on one of her tales.
So, do you think one or the other of them really did take off for California?
