Carmela,

Thanks for your follow-up. I don't think that I need any other census years. Here are the subsequent years for Amanda and her husband Jacob D. Steiner. Amanda Corte/Cortte/Korte was born in Lomira, Dodge county, WI. I doubt that there is anything in the 1890 for her since that is the year that was lost.

CENSUS: 1900 U S Pop; SD, Grant county, Big Stone twp; ED 149, sheet 16A & 16B (p246); enumerated June 3 & 6; dwelling 261, family 265;
Steiner, Jacob D, head, W, M, b June 1860, age 39, married, married 9 yrs, b in WI, parents b in Switzerland; farmer, no months unemployed, reads-writes-speaks English, owns home, home is mortgaged, is a farm;
Steiner, Amanda, wife, W, F, b Oct 1870, 29, married, married 9 yrs, b in WI, parents b in Germany, no occupation, reads-writes-speaks Eng;
Steiner, John A., son, W, M, b Jan 1892, 8, single, b in MN, parents b in WI (all children); at school, reads- writes-speaks Eng;
Steiner, Edwin D., son, W, M, b Feb 1893, 7, single, b in WI, at school, reads-writes-speaks Eng;

Steiner, Allan C., son, W, M, b Jun 1898, 1, single, reads-writes-speaks Eng;

Blum, George, servant, M, W, b March 1878, 22, single, b in WI, parents b in Germany, farm labor, reads-writes-speaks Eng.

The family in the dwelling numbered just before Jacob Steiner's family was the family of Korte, John E. It is my opinion that this John E. is the brother of Amanda, wife of Jacob D. Steiner.

The 1920 and 1930 Census show the following, among other things:
1920 - lists Jacob D and wife, Amanda with children (eldest to youngest) Roy J., son, age 24, Allen C., son, 21, Edna M., dau, age 19, and Mildred L, dau, age 13. Just ten years later, the 1930 census lists Jacob D, wife Amanda and daughter Mildred, age 23, living in the same household (family #157) with Roy J. nad wife, Irene (family #158). Family data shows that Jacob D. Steiner and Amanda had the following six children: (1) John Arthur (2) Edwin (3) Roy J (4)Edna (5) Alan, and (6) Mildred. Found living in Big Stone City also during the 1930 census were children (6) Mildred, single, and (3) Roy J. and wife; (1) John A & wife Della or Nella, (2)Edwin, wife Lillian E. The question then is, where is Alan or Allen (alternatively spelled in census)? Also who did Edna marry, and whether or not Mildred ever married.

But, should you find anything or have anything, I'd surely be interested in knowing. Thanks again.
