My grandfather Forest CASSEL WOOD was born out-of-wedlock to Alice CASSEL about 1872 in Iowa. The family legend is that Alice CASSEL was captured by indians at an early age in Iowa and when she was returned at age 14 she had a son (my grandfather) who was adopted by her sister Eliza CASSEL & her husband George WOOD (they later moved to Eau Galle, Dunn Co, Wisconsin). Her parents were Jacob CASSEL & Jane NOLAN. Alice later married Rube SMITH. Alice's siblings were Joseph Wiley, William, Eliza, Catherine, John, George & Susan. Because of the nature of his birth, Forest CASSEL WOOD's ancestry was hidden and we've just connected him this year to his grandparents, Jacob & Jane CASSEL and learned that his adoptive parents moved to Eau Galle, Dunn Co, Wisconsin. Any info you have would be greatly appreciated! As you can imagine our search has been very difficult but we've made great strides now that we've identified the CASSEL family.
