In the state Marriage index I found John Edwards marrying Maria Churchill Oct 1856 in Green County. The couple I am searching for lived in the Freeport, IL area in 1860, but I have found no record of their marriage in IL. There were Churchill families living in Monroe and Sylvester in 1860 who were from New York as was my Maria Churchill, so it is possible she was with relatives and married in WI. Does anyone have access to the records who would be willing to do a lookup for me? My Maria was 13 years older than John, who would have been about 23 years old. If it looks as though this is the right couple, I would go ahead and order the marriage record, but with such common names, I hesitate as it's likely that they are not "mine."
