hi Carmela, thanks for replying.
im glad you enjoyed your visit to ENGLAND. ive a daughter living just outside LONDON, in a place called Wallington, one of the better areas of LONDON, her husband is a policeman of some rank in New Scotland Yard and she is a full time Governer of a large Technical College, but my favaorite place is the Isle of Wight, my eldest daughter
lives on the Island, and its a really nice place, more lively in the summer where the main business is holiday
makers who go over in their thousands for the summer, and the rock festivals.
Cheshire where i live is very nice the County town is CHESTER, a very old city, surrounded completely by the Roman Wall, i believe its the only city with a complete
wall. im from LIVERPOOL in birth but moved to this area in
1960.
I got the FANNY HOLMES from the 1900 census. My FANNY HEWITT was born in Liverpool in July 1666, STANLEY, LIVERPOOL, her mom and pop were ELLEN and JOSHUA HEWITT.
when her pop died in 1848 the family split up and most of them went their own way. Mom ELLEN came to live with her
daughter ELIZABETH LUNT, nee HEWITT, she being my grandmother.
FANNY and her older sister MARGARET went to live in STOCKPORT CHESHIRE they were 15 and 19 years old and both
worked as cotton spinners in the cotton factories.
their older brother THOMAS HEWITT born 1858 again in LIVERPOOL emigrated to the USA, and from what ive been told
he became a county sherrif and farmer in ARIZONA and was killed in a lightening storm when baling hay for his cattle,
MARGARET his sister got a letter from either a wife or partner, or even daughter telling her that her brother had been killed, but the letter has long since been lost, and unfortunately ive not been able to find out the facts about him.
but again i believe that FANNY HEWITT jumped on a ship SS ITALY, and arrived in NEW YORK on 7 Sept 1886, age 20 and unmarried and i believe she wanted to go and find her older brother THOMAS.
That where everything ends, because once FANNY disembarked in NEW YORK, ive got no records of what happened to her, no death, no marriage no nothing, and to make matters worse, the 1890 census as you know was destroyed by fire or whatever, so that cant be checked.
I couldnt find her on the 1900 census so i assumed she must have married and was on there but under her married name. so i checked all the FANNYs on the 1900 census, born abt 1866 ENGLAND and decided to see then all out, 32 hits in all, and thats what im doing, working my way through all the names, and not having much success, so if you can help i would be most greatful, if fact if you find her for me, i promise to come over and give you the biggest kiss you have ever had. now theres a promise.
and the same goes for your buddy Karen.
FANNY HEWITT born 29 July 1866, STANLEY, LIVERPOOL LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND. FATHER JOSHUA HEWITT
MOTHER ELLEN HEWITT nee CROSBY.
There you have it all now, the full history, after 8 years of seeking im getting tired.
EDDIE.
