Sometimes speaking directly with the people at the county level can help to point you in the direction of someone who can help you with your specific request. In this case, there may actually be a volunteer available to check through the sexton's records at the Gratiot Cemetery to see if the name Matson is listed. Might be worth a letter or call.
BTW..DH and I used to visit Yuma, AZ every winter and really loved the community. Will definitely miss the pleasant weather and friendly people this winter while we're "freezing" here in the midwest...brrrrrrrrrrr....!
