Malcolm/Steinmeyer

My grandfather was born Robert Steinmeyer - in Chicago in 1886 - his birth parents being Louis Charles and Rosa (Malcolm) Steinmeyer. In 1893 my grandfather was adopted out, by a Dr. Anna (Baldwin) Bailey, and his name changed to Benjamin Franklin Bailey.

A couple years ago or so I was finally able to get a copy of his adoption record. The only thing new that I learned was that his birth parents were divorced. A lady found a newspaper blip about their divorce date so I sent for and received a copy of their divorce papers. From these I learned that the father took off, taking their oldest son with him and moved to Philadelphia, PA. The second boy ended up in an insane asymlum in IL after being beaten badly by a matron while he was living in a Boy's Home. By the time of the divorce, the youngest boy had died, and as I said above, my grandfather was adopted out. That means no children were then living with the mother, Rosa.

IL states they do not have a death certificate for her so I am wondering if she moved back to Milwaukee, where her parents and a brother lived, and that's why I am writing. If anyone is familiar with either the Malcolm family living in Milwaukee, about 1890 and after, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Rosa's father's name was Robert, mother was Rosetta, and siblings were John, Tillie and Robert. I'd be happy to share any information that I have. Thank you. Carol
