Dear Karen,
I was looking for more information on My John and Nora (Mulkern) Widner when I came across the following article in 'The Fort Wayne Daily News' dated 7-21-1917.Under the heading called 'Correspondents in Nearby Towns' is the following:
Mrs. Nora Widner, of this city, charging her husband, John Widner, with cruel and inhuman treatment, is sueing for a divorce in the DeKalb circuit court.Mrs Widner states that they were married in 1894 and lived together until 1915, when he ordered her from the house, threatening to do her bodily harm if she did not go.Since that time she has been supporting herself and the children. The couple have three children, Percy, aged 17 years, Pearl, 16 and Forrest, 12. Mrs. Widner asks that she be granted a divorce and the custody of the children, and $500.00 alimony. She states that her husband owns property valued at $1200.00 and draws a salary of $80.00 per month and asks the court to compel him to pay $100.00 per year for the support of each of the children.
If you go to look up this article it is in the 4th column from the left and five lines from the top.I hope this gives you more information.
Gretchen Widner
