Dear Christine;
My Grand-mother's brother was married to a cousin of Sir Reg. Wingate who was at the time the lt. gov. of the Sudan.His cousin was a Doctor who had practised in India and then after her marriage to my grt. Uncle, worked in the Sudan and Egypt.This would have been in the early 1900's.I understand that they were in Egypt until shortly before the first world war, and then left the area.My grt Uncle was Jamie or James Reid, and his wife's name was Margaret.They had one daughter at that time, a small child they called Peggy (I think, a diminutive for Margaret).My Father believed that they might have relocated to Australia, but in letters of Jamie's to my Grandmother that I have, he said he couldn't face moving to Canada (he was born in Edinborough, Scot., and grew up in Sheffield, Eng.)as he couldn't bear the cold weather. Jamie and Margaret met in India, I think, where Jamie was an Engineer.Any help you could lend me in finding this missing link in my Father's family would be very much appreciated!
