I am a Vinyard descendant but
we have found all kinds of variants of the name and think perhaps it started
out as Weingartner or something close to that. In America we arrived early
maybe as early as 1726 not been established clearly yet. But some of the
names we have found it was transcribed as were Wingard Wingord, Weinert,
Vingard, Vinyard, Vineyard, Winger etc etc.... we have some names that keep
popping up in the lines early on and down through the line and one is Philip
and I found your tree when trying to find more information out about our
Philip. I found the Will of Andrew fascinating as it named some names in our
family that we could not figure out the name sake for and I wondered if you
have found that the name could perhaps have been something close to what we
have? We have much of the family in VA and especially there was a line in
Scott County. We have never found relatives for this line though we knew
there must be some! Also many of ours went to Grainger TN which is next door
to where your family was at in Hawkins. I wondered if you would like to join
the Vineyard research website to further investigate the possiblity or if
you would like to compare some information? We had many families of these lines end up in Madison County, IL and lower IL and MO. Some ended up in GA but we have missing people it is evident to see and in comparing your lines and ours it looks as though there could be a relationship!
It is shocking to say the least and I think we might have related lines.
Thanks so much
