Lane: James is right, If you are not directly related to
Frederick Nash WITHERSPOON, son of John Knox, son of
David, only surviving son of John the Signer, then you are
not descended from The Signer, unless it was through his ancestors back in Scotland.
Frederick Nash, born in Elizabethtown, NJ, 13 Mar 1814, and died Apr 1838 in Kendall Co IL. He was raised in Hillsborough, Orange Co, NC, where his father was a minister and had a school.
Frederick Nash was the only grandson of David, thus the only great-grandson of John the Signer.
James Alexander is a great deal more informed about The
Signer's family than I am, since it's not my line. However,
I have spent many hours trying to prove to my own family,
and others, that we are not direct descendants of The Signer.
Altho it's not my line either, it appears that your immigrant ancestor was James, b.1747 probably Londonderry NIR and d. in 1838 in what is now Gaston Co, NC.
If you would like further information on this line, contact
me direct.Charlie Weaver, Winston-Salem, NC
