Re: Witts in Missouri
There were Witts in Polk and Dade County as well around this same time: what they have in common is that they too came in originally from Tennessee:
The DNA tests we have suggests there are at least 3 different Witt lineages to Missouri: all of these so far originate in Virginia........but different Counties there: and different men.
It was the thing to do at the time: shift to Tennessee: and there is an abundance of original Virginia people who made that move.
Missouri apparently at the time seemed a safer bet during the war than the southern states: although we know that turned out not to be true: so many did make that move.
We dont have a known sample of the Miller County Witts: so its hard to say if Arthur and Jonathon were related to the other Tennessee Witts: but it would make sense. Not sure anyone actually knows who their parents were.
There were some De Witts in Taney region as well: again: hard to speculate on the connection.
It may well have been it was via meeting Witts in and around Taney that Matilda came to the Witts in Miller: since I believe she was married in Polk County to John Witt if I recall.
However to my knowledge so far: no other Witts lived in Miller at that time other than the offspring of Arthur and Jonathon Witt. Thus one concludes any marriages in Miller of Witts are kinfolk marriages.
