Dennis, I just saw this on here as I was looking him up-sorry I couldn't get into the link you posted in my email for Ancestry.I used to have an account but couldn't afford to renew this year but don't think that would preclude me from getting your posting there.
Anyway, I have an idea about this.Could Marshall Ellis Woolsey, (on Thomas' death cert) really be Thomas Marshall Ellis Woolsey?Kids were often named the same as their fathers and then for Sarah Dorris-could his dad have been married previously to her and then remarried to Elizabeth? That might account for both his father and mother's names. As I said with my grandfather, too, his father's name was on his death cert. but his grandmother's name was there in place of his mother. Also, who was the person who gave the information on Thomas' death cert?Sometimes they don't really know but will put down who they think it might be.If Thomas gave his parents' names on his marriage cert, he probably gave the most current parents at that time.Maybe his first mom Sarah died while he was an infant and his dad remarried early so that Thomas would have only known Elizabeth as his mom?I'm thinking that's probably the case with one of my ancestors too that is a mystery.Often, too,men went by middle rather than first names.I think this is the case with the elder William Terry.I think his middle name was Thomas and he preferred being known as that and only gave William on official records. At least a couple of his sons I think did that too.Just an idea.Carrie
