Thought I would jump in on the Wounded Knee postings. My G-G-Grandfather was the battalion commander that captured Big Foot's band and brought them to his camp at the Wounded Kneed Creek crossing -- Major (later Brigadier General) Samuel M. Whitside. I wrote a masters thesis on his career including a chapter about the 7th Cavalry during the Sioux Campaign of 1890-'91. The thesis also includes an appendix listing all of his descendants. I'd be glad to share it if anyone is interested.
