Have you had much success finding information about your ancestor? My Gr-Gr-Grandfather was Maj (later BG) Samuel M. Whitside, the battalion commander and captured Big Foot's band and brought them to his camp and Wounded Knee Creek. I was able to find quite a bit of information just digging through old regimental returns in the National Archives.
