I have no blood from the People. Instead, my introduction and exposure was by "adoption". Lakota People gave me family after mine had been ripped away and self-respect when I'd lost mine. They taught, but did not criticize. I was honored to share in sweat lodge ceremonies on occasions too numerous to mention and was allowed to assist in sundances and vision quests. I was touched by spirits in a (successful) healing ceremony performed by a Lakota friend after my heart attack. Even though I have no Lakota blood, I consider myself to have a Lakota heart. I have a Kiowa/Cherokee blood brother who is the closest friend I have ever had. The Lakota prayer I posted means "I want the Lakota people to live (spiritually)." I'm glad I found this website, it has been good for me to remember where I've come from.
