Wounded Knee
I had a relative who was in the Nebraska National Guard that was at the battle. He was a Sgt. and was wounded there.I visited this "place" in 1990.It is the most desolate and isolated place on the Reservation. Took me a half day to find it.
I asked a Native American woman why it had not been made into a National Park in rememberance of those who fought there. The answer??The tribe is split into two camps over that and they are very polarized.Strongly so, pecially the anti park population. So nothing is going to be done to explain in layman's terms what really happened there and WHY.And the why is what is causing so much retoric on the subject. After reading the recent messages on this topic one does tend to forget that this site is for genealogy and NOT to dicuss ones persnoal feelings on the matter.
