OLD Mrs. Ann Marie High Hass Obit

At their residence near the mouth of Little Capon, in this county, on Thurs. Eve. the 5th inst., Mrs. Ann Marie, the amiable wife of Mr. William HASS, in about the 48th year of her age. Her remains were taken to her family burial ground near Purgettsville and laid with kindred dust in the presence of many weeping friends to rest in Christian Hope until the resurrection morn.

I believe she may be buried in the following:


From the Hampshire County Cemeteries Project, Wayne McGahuey

High (Button) Cemetery, near Purgitsville, WV.

From the Purgittsville post office, go south on Rt. 220 about 1.7 miles to Hickory Hill Rd., turn left. Go east about .3 miles on Hickory Hill Rd., past the Rinker's Gun Ship to Deer Lane on the right. Travel this rod to the end. Cemetery is located about 50 feet from the road.



Malinda Everett: died Jan 13, 1890; "Aged 72 yrs 7 mos 8 days".
Margaret A. High: died Feb 11, 1887; "Wife of William H. High".
William H. High: born 1838; died 1914.
There is believed to be 4 other graves in this cemetery.


DR Note: I remember seeing an mention of a reporter traveling thru that area and he indicated that Mr. Hass owned a fine farm about a mile or so down the road from Okonoko along the river.

DR Note: Mr. William Hass who is buried with his first wife S. Arnold near Green Springs, Hamp Co., latter married Mrs. Etta R. Sperow, of Okonoko, widow of Levi Sperow.
