McCoys on the 1850 Appanoose Iowa census born in Va were:
Iowa > Appanoose > Center Township 4

There were 175 people listed as born in Va on the 1850 census for Iowa > Appanoose.

I would look closer at the McCoys found in Monroe County Ohio.
on the 1840 Monroe Ohio census is a Gilbert McCoy 30-40 that could be the Gilbert Mccoy on the 1850 Iowa. Other McCoys on the 1840 Monroe Ohio census are:

Gilbert Mccoy Adams, Monroe, Ohio
Gilbert Mccoy Green, Monroe, Ohio
Mitchel Mccoy Adams, Monroe, Ohio
