Thanks! further research - and I have the following to share (not ehe Civil War Wilt!!):

Records indicate that Christian married again in about 1867, (after losing his wife) to a woman 23 years younger, Caroline L. McFaddin. She was possibly a full Native American, but was at least half. While she had grown up in the western portion of Virginia, and her parents had started out in Lexington, there is indication that she her tribe may have originated from the Elk Lick region of Somerset County Pennsylvania, where it seems so many of the Preston and Garrett County families had originated.

Marriage to Caroline L. McFaddin abt. 1867 / b. abt. 1843 in Va (most likely Rockbridge County)                             d. in Garrett Co. Md. bet. 1910-1920.

Father: Henry McFaddin b. abt 1795 in Va - possibly Native American
Mother: Caroline (unknown) b. abt 1813 in Va- full-blooded Native American

Christian and Caroline's Children* :

Christian F. b. 1868 WV
Franklin b. 1869 WV
Dolly b. Feb 1872 WV
Caroline† b. 1873
Anna b. 1874
David T. b. Jan 1877 Md
Phoebe b. 1878 Md.
Lucy Elizabeth b. Aug. 4, 1879 Oakland, Md. /
m. William F. Bragg
Bessie b. Sep 1888 Md / m. Calvin Smith

Note: "Wilt" is transcribed as "West."

1900 census Union, Grant Co., West Virginia; Roll:623_1758; Page: 4B; Caroline L. Wilt and 3 children; also on Page 7B find daughter Lucy, with new husband William F. Bragg.

1910 census Kitzmiller, Garrett Co., Maryland; Roll: T624_565; Page: 10A Enumeration Dist: 99; Image 797
Listed as "Carline" living with daughter, Bessie married to Gerald Smith and their two children.

Note: The 1900 Census recorded that she had 10 children, and only 6 were still living in 1900; the Census data reveal nine;        with no 1890 census and no other known record to this point - it would have been four of these children: Christian, Franklin, Caroline, Anna, Phoebe, or unknown child (b. aft. 1880)

Henry McFaddin Wagon Maker

Born abt. 1797

Note: possibly born in Virginia; (was not recorded in Census before 1830). In 1830 he was listed in Lexington Virginia with an adolescent male. There were four households of McFaddin's listed in the 1820 Lexington census (but no one of his age appeared to be residing in any of them).

He may have been a full-blooded Native American who took the McFaddin name. This is theorized for three reasons: first -he has living descendants who knew his daughter to be Native American (however it is possible they misunderstood by a generation); and second -you will find the McFaddin (McFadden) name in the census records of our Native Americans (such as the Choctaw Nation - who were known to have sympathies with the Irish). Our Native Americans definitely took names of their European brothers and sisters as they tried (or were forced) to assimilate {just as the African slaves also took on the European names of their "owners."}. Finally, he and his wife, "Caroline," ultimately settled and died in the Elk Lick area of Somerset County Pennsylvania, known to have had a Native American settlement and burial mound {and interestingly "McFaddin" was not one of the early recorded families in that area).

If he was not Native American, then he would have been of Scottish descent (through Northern Ireland). His ancestor would most likely have been Andrew McFadin who's descendants migrated from Maine "via the Presbyterian settlements along the Delaware coastline" and then "by way of the 'Great Valley Road' down the Shenandoah."**

Married Caroline born in 1813 Full-blooded Native American. Highly likely that she was from one of the                             tribes of the Iroquois Nation.

They married in about 1832, starting their family in Lexington (Rockbridge County) Virginia. They remained there for a while as they recorded there in the 1840 Census. By 1850 they had moved to Lewis County Virginia (now WV - in the center of the state). By 1860 they had moved again to the Buckhannon area of Upshur County Virginia (now WV). Young Caroline (who married Christian Wilt) would have been about 18 at this time. By 1870, their children grown, Henry and Caroline settled in the Salisbury Community (Elk Lick) of Somerset Pennsylvania. Their son, Samuel, was with them and their eldest daughter, Phoebe, was already there. Henry was about age 73 and Caroline was 56. Now it may be that they went there to spend the remainder of their lives near their daughter, or that they were returning to the place of their Native American origin. Henry was to die there before 1880. Caroline then lived with her daughter's family in the Greenville area of Somerset (date of death unknown).

Henry and Caroline's Children^:

Phoebe (Susan) b. May 1833 in Lexington Va./ m. Alfred Wagner‡ -settled in Somerset Pennsylvania
William H. b. 1835 Lexington Va. - took Father's trade of Wagon Maker
James b. 1839 Lexington, Va
Charles b. 1841
Caroline L b. 1842
Ellis B. b. 1846
Samuel P. b. 1848
Franklin P. b. 1852

^All of these children either would have been full or half-blooded Native American

_Note: the Wagner family was another "original" Elk Lick family. Alfred (b. 1833)was living with Phoebe near her parents in Buckhannon Virginia (now WV) in 1860 - another migration of an Elk Lick person to go West to this region.
