My deceased father, Leonard Woolard (1921-1996), son of William Elmer and Rosa Belle Lockhart-Woolard and grandson of Isaiah Rector and Margaret Belle Bixler-Lockhart was raised in Slate, WV. Both of his parents, grandparents and two siblings are buried in Mayberry Cemetery along with many Lockhart and Lynch relatives. My father said he was born in Worthington, WV but upon requesting a record of his birth when he was retirement age, the State of West Virginia Vital Records stated there was no such record on file nor was there ever a Worthington, WV. I remember my father talking about Slate Creek School and I remember a family trip when I was about 10 years old when we visited this school. It was a small one room building, boarded up and in bad shape. I believe it was right against the road. My questions are, does anyone have information or a photo of Slate School and information as to Worthington, WV?
