Hi Rob,
I have received digital copies of three of my uncles ww.1 Australian Army enlistment documents from National Archives of Australia
http://www.naa.gov.au/the_collection/recordsearch.htmlhttp://www.naa.gov.au/the_collection/recordsearch.html
They all show the requirment to endorse 'age' only on the application - not as one would expect, d.o.b. This seems to have been applicable in ww2 enlistments as well. It would seem that the Armed Services were only interested in ensuring that you were over the age of 18.My grandfather joined the R.A.N. in 1913 and his d.o.b. is written in as an afterthought on top of his service record.
The above web site will give you access to the National Archives and you can apply for a full digital copy of his record to be made available. This may give you information that you do not already have.
Regards,Michael - Sydney.
