Since Alvin's mother died when he was 10 or so and if his older sister helped raise him, it might be her first name on his SSA application. My mother's cousin had the same type thing. She was child # 10 and her father died by the time she was 8. Her oldset brother by 20 years is named on her death certificate as her father as that was the only older male name her kids heard growing up. Another sibling luckily had the family bible availble to have her correct parentage.
Have you found and ordered Elizabeth's other children's SSA applications or death certificates? Looks like Concetta Boyle never married and died in 2003 in PA.
