I feel dumb but i just figured out what Alvin wrote on his SS application for his moms first name. It took me awhile but there it was. He wrote (unknown). In his 16 year old handwriting it looked like the first parentheses was a cap C and the close parentheses was a cap I. but it was the word unknown. I guess I can stick with the name Elizabeth which is how she is listed in the 1930 US Census. someone gave me her date of death on another messageboard so i will be calling cemeteries tomorrow to try to find her.
