WWI military uniform: shoulder patch, ID needed
I'm looking for clues on how I can learn in what capacity my great grandfather served in WWI. No one in my family knows and I've been informed that many military records from WWI have been lost / destroyed in a fire. The link below is to the only photo that I have of him in which you can clearly see an identifying mark on his uniform - his shoulder patch which bears the initials TMC.

I've checked images of WWI shoulder patch insignias and have never seen one that looked like this one.
Many thanks!
Dan
