Which USS Virginia of WWI?
USS Virginia (BB-13) was a Virginia-class battleship commissioned in 1906, decommissioned in 1920, and destroyed in 1923 as a bombing target

USS Virginia (SP-274), was a yacht purchased by the Navy and officially referred to only as SP-274, patrolled Lake Michigan during World War I

USS Virginia (SP-746), was a motorboat acquired by the Navy and officially referred to only as SP-746, patrolled the east coast during World War I

USS Virginia (SP-1965), was a two-masted auxiliary schooner acquired by the Navy and officially referred to only as SP-1965, patrolled the east coast during World War I

Which USS Apache of WWI?
USS Apache (1889), a tug in commission in 1898 and again in service from 1900 to 1925

USS Apache (1891), a United States Coast Guard Cutter in commission in the U.S. Navy from 1917 to 1919

USS Apache (SP-729), later USS SP-729, a patrol boat in commission from 1917 to 1919

What state didf he enlist in? Was it the same as the one he lived in and returned to?

Ancestry has some Military databases but need state as not all have middle name or just have an initial.
