No luck yet. I did find out that Bent County does have the death records from Fort Lyons and have received the application from them.

I found James Mcsorley in the 1940 census in a VA hospital in Bent County. On internment.net I found a James McSerley buried in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. However, the name has an * after it meaning that the information has not been confirmed. Talked the person there and he said I have to contact the VA.

Since his only family in the US was in New Mexico it might be him.

So I am going to send for a death cert and see what happens.
