I can't seem to find a reliable source to enhance it well enough to make it out clearly. However, my guess would be either Artillery or perhaps even signal or maybe even Infantry since it is crossed in the center (or appears to be)

Being that he may have very well served in the 3rd Army, is there a source that provides the units within the 3rd Army? Wikipedia notes that "The third Army consisted of three corps (III, Maj. Gen. John L. Hines; IV, Maj. Gen. Charles Muir; and VII, Maj. Gen. William G. Hahn) and seven divisions."
