Louie, Yes the moons go by but there are some things which are etched to where you never forget. As your friend was a GM3c (GunnersMate 3rd class) he would of been attached to either one of the six deck divisions or the "F" division as I was..
I left the Navy after the Arizona and then went back when the war started. I went into Aviation Ordnance then and continued service until I retired in 58.
Most of my time was spent in the Pacific . I was very fortunate in that I escaped combat by the skin of my teeth, except for one small scrimish with a Jap sub. I saw plenty of the results though. Have you seen the recent motion picture of the war that was on Public TV? Its quite impressing with some scenes.. I think it tells it pretty close to the way it really was. Take care.
