Hi Lisa, Mr. Fronzek is correct. You need some basic information first. So I hope this will be helpful to get you started. I believe this is the partial enlistment for your Ben Morris below the ***** line. It was the only one on the NARA site but that doesn't mean it is your Ben Morris. So review and hopefully it is. If it is, I would suggest that you start by contacting the Independence County Clerk's office of Arkansas and/or the State Archives of Arkansas to see if they have his full enlistment information and if he survived the war, hopefully his discharge papers. Those papers should tell you what unit he started out with and ended with. If you can't find a specifice person to contact...contact anyone you can and ask them to direct you to the right place.

After you find out if his enlistment and discharge papers are or aren't available, then I would suggest that you write to the NPRC for information but you will probably receive the "burned" response....but one never knows. Fill out the Standard Form 180 from the site below.
