First Sergeant Charles Weeks, Co "K" 302D Inf

For the past 2 months I have been researching information pertaining to my father, Charles Everett Weeks, who served in Co "K" 302D Infantry, 94th Infantry Division during WWII. He was a First Sergeant (844) during his time served in this unit. The only information I have on him is his honorable discharge paper. I do have a list of men who were in Co "K" 302D Infantry during WWII who would have supposedly served with my father, and I have written to several men on the list, and have heard from a few of them that are still alive, but the ones who are still alive say they do not remember my father ever being in Co "K", 302D Infantry and serving as their First Sergeant. One unit member who wrote to me told me that during this time in WWII many men were transferred to other units, and that it is quite possible that my father could have been transferred from the 83rd Division or the 90th Division. I have also written the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO requesting records about my father, only to have them write me back saying that the fire of 1973 destroyed his records, and also that the separation document (Form 53-55 Honorable Discharge paper) contains more information than they are able to reconstruct. I don't understand this at all! How can the discharge paper have more information than they are able to reconstruct?? I am completely baffled as to why no one remembers my father serving in their unit Co "K" 302D Infantry. How can someone not remember their First Sergeant???? There has to be a logical explanation of why I'm not being able to turn up any information about him, or that no one remembers him. Can anyone who is reading this give me some direction as to where else to research?? And I'll be glad to provide more information that is on his honorable discharge paper, such as serial number, or any other information that may be able to help turn up some information on him. My father died in 1995, and I don't have any old photos, letters, or anything from him during his time in WWII - all I have is the information on his discharge paper. Please email me if you are able to advise me in any way, as I have hit a brick wall at this point with my research. Thank you. Mrs. Donna Weeks Duty
