My dad was also in the 302nd, he was wounded in Trier, Germany in (I think) March of 45. Him records were also destroyed in the same fire as your father's.
I was able to get a summary of his service record from the National Archives and Records Administration under the Freedom of Information Act. The form is "NA form 13164 (rev. 02-02). Try that approach by contacting the National Archives on line.
Give them all the pertinent info you have including dates, and SS number if you have it.
