The NARA has the ENLISTMENT RECORDS of 8+ million people on their web site. That's it. Those records only show facts about their civilian lives except for those few folks who were allowed to re-enlisting in 1945-46.
The only reason those records were digitized was they existed on old fashioned punch cards. The cards could be machine read and converted to an electronic file. The contents of servicemen's personell files are much too varied and would have to be read and digitized individually by a human operator.
All the Army and Air Force personell files are in the NARA facility in St. Louis. To get files (if they were not destroyed in the fire) you have to submit a form that can be downloaded from the NARA website.
