My dad was a Lieutenant and aerial photographer in the Army Air Corp, stationed in China, Burma and India theater.
He originally was slated to go to Italy with the 461st. However, he was pulled off the train with a tooth infection and ended up in CBI and was in China, India, Burma and even Africa.
The historian for the 461st responded to my email, and stated:
"From my records, your father was the Group Photography Officer. It's a shame he never made it to Italy as I'm sure we would have much better photos of the 461st if he had."
My dad had a couple of photos from the 461st, but most of what I now have are in the CBI theater where he ended up spending most of his time from 1944-1945.
WIth my mother's death last October, I acquired all that is remaining of his collection - more than a hundred photographs.
Many are stamped "Official Army Air Corps" or "Official USAAF"...
I am trying to find out what to do with these. Dozens and dozens of aerial photos of airfields, water, mountains etc. that I'm sure mean something to a WWII researcher or historian.
There are many many 8 x 10 photos of bombers, fighter planes and transport planes in flight and on the ground, over mountainous terrain and over sea, a couple that are labeled "Flying the Hump"; group photos of the servicemen,
USO shows, photos of VE day in Kunming, china.
I listed these on Ebay, and reserved the right to withdraw any offer. I asked if anyone knew of who might find good use for these. I'm trying to locate the families of some of the identified servicemen in the photos and spent all day today searching for those people on Ancestry.
I have the photo of a Frank Yeoman, whom it appears was killed 1 month after this photo was taken, from what I found on Ancestry. There are group photos that are unlabeled, and half a dozen individuals - other than Yeoman - that are identified.
If anyone could help at all, please email me through ancestry.
I want these to get in the right hands. I suspect the families of some of these men might like to know about these.
I am not looking to make money on these. I would be willing to donate them, if they will be used for the purpose of research or education. Or even helping families of these men.
That is what would my father would have wanted.
